Thank you for everyone’s support in the past one year, the 4EVAJESSIE blog. It has been quite a journey since I have started this blog, and sometimes, even to myself, it feels like I have been blogging here forever! There are a few highlights I would like to share with you – my dear audiences.
Instead of coming up with a Q&A list of my own. I recently was interviewed by a street-wear magazine, and I thought I might share the Q&A here to know me better…
What did you start your blog?
The funny thing about starting this blog is that it wasn’t my idea in the first place. It wasn’t my own idea to become an Instagrammer neither. I started as a hand-model for one of my girl friend’s fine jeweller, and I have received extremely positive feedbacks on Instagram from each post. As a result of that, my girl friend, her name is Cassie, suggested that I should become an Instagrammer and during the early days, she was my art director and photographer, sometimes editor as well! It was actually a very surprising and joyful journey to see my Instagram to grow to fast, and one day I decided to it to the next level by building a website of my own to start a blog. I have to honestly tell you, I am not a very tech-savvy person, and I honestly had no idea how to build a website at the beginning. However, I am a very determined person when I want to achieve something. So I spent one day doing research on what’s the best website host for a blog and how to start one and another day to watch YouTube clips on how to build a website from scratch using WordPress. After two whole of working on it, Wala, couldn’t believe my site was up running and everything was actually functional. Up to this point, I’m still pretty proud of myself that someone who doesn’t even know how to format a computer now can build a website from scratch!
What was the most rewarding thing from your blogging experience?
I will have to say it’s the blogging community itself. Through blogging, I have met so many lovely blogger throughout the world, since we live in a boundless virtual world for blogging, and became close friends with them. I’ve been meeting up with bloggers from other counties when I travel , and I’ve been hosting them when they are visiting my residential city. Starting this blog has been one of the most wonderful highlights of my life and I have learnt a lot about life and fashion from the girls from different corners of the world.
At what point did you begin to gain tons of followers, and how did that feel?
I actually only started blogger about a year ago. I started as an instagrammer about 2 years and up till about a year ago, I decided to launch a blog (www.4evajessie.com) about Fashion, Lifestyle and Travel. I don’t normally consider myself as a tech-smart person, but I was pretty proud of myself that it took me
Who takes your photos?
To best honest, it’s pretty much anyone I can grab, a photographer, a friend, a passenger on the street, a security guide at a site or even a driver J I was at a UNESCO site in Montenegro last year travelling by myself, and I wanted to have a few shots with the beautiful site, so I asked one of the tourism who also had a SLR on her neck to take a few shots for me :). That was definitely one of the extreme case! Most of the time, I have local photographers lined up in the cities I travel and they take photos for me. As for my resident city, I have a few photographers I have been working with and they take amazing photos J
Can you please share with us a “day in the life”?
My weekdays are often quite routined, not as exciting as you might picture a blogger would have. My alarm o’clock is usually set for a 5.45am rise, rising early and shine everyday, even during the winter time when it’s pitch dark when my alarm goes off. I’ve always wanted to learn how to meditate and spend 10 or 15 mins meditate in the morning to clear some head space, however, it seems quite impossible when my current job. I often arrive office around 7am to start my day as an Oil & Energy equity research analyst. Yes, that’s the geeky side of Jessie. What you wonder what is an equity research analyst, here’s one sentence to summarize it -> basically, I’m the person who writes the ‘Buy’ and ‘Sell’ for the stocks. On a normal and calm day, I get to knock off around 730pm, however, when the companies I cover have any breaking news, or results announcements, then I probably need to finish my day around midnight to make up I write a report to cover the news and to make sure the valuation of the company reflects the new information/news and get it published before 7am the following day.
Your next question probably will be: HOW DO YOU EVEN FIND TIME TO BLOG! Well, most of my photos are taken during the weekends, and I take photos in batches every second or third week. When there is a special request of a posting date from a brand, sometimes, I take photos during my lunch. If not, I try to fit in my workouts during my lunch time break and leave the after work time for friends or just chill at home.
When did you start landing brand sponsorships and what do you think made that happen?
I can’t remember clearly when the first brand reached out to me. A few smaller and trending brands reached me via email probably through the hashtags I’ve used on Instagram. I try to be unique with each post and use different hashtags, so my post will stand out from the rest, rather than get washed down from the top posts in a few seconds. Hashtags like #photooftheday #instagrammer #smile #f4f …etc have no value added. Those hashtags have about hundreds of billions tagged posts, so you posts will be washed down within a few seconds.
What do you do when you are not writing or working on social media?
I do so many things… I can go on and on for like at least pages…Having them in short: exercising and traveling are different my soul food. When I’m feeling stressed from work or when life throw me a lemon, I go exercise hard. I go for a long jog (10+ km) or go have a hard core session at Muay Thai just to punch out the stress. When I’m so drained from my day job or the stress level in my life reaching for the last straw, I schedule an impulsive trip to treat myself. Sometimes I just book somewhere a day before the departure. Last year, I decided to visit Petra in Jordan on a Thursday and I was there on a Friday J Be free, and follow my heart is what I firmly believe.
Other than those, there are a million other thing I do outside work and blogging:
- I love to read inspiration and empowering books;
- I love to drive around destinationless just to enjoy the weather, especially during summer
- I love to hike with my friends and enjoy the amazing views in Hong Kong
- I love to go stand-up paddle boarding during the summer
- I love to do a few jumps during the weekends for wakeboarding
- I love to sip on a glass of wine and paint
- I love to chill in the sun by the beach
- I love to check out art galleries from time to time and search for the next piece I want to invest in
- I love to work in a leather workshop and make my own leather goods
- I love to sloth on my couch and just Netflix
- I also spend a lot of time on my other businesses one them I’ve been working on is a chillax drink to help you to calm and manage stress…
- There are so many things I do, and I feel very content with my life at every single minute!
One of my recent favourite is ‘A true individual is precisely one who is different from the rest of the world, and there is no formula, no set of rules, no code of conduct that can possibly capture in information term what it is to be like that.” – Frederick Nietzsche. -> Inspired by a recent met friend, but yet felt so close and like minded.
This quote summarized fashion into one sentence. Fashion, in a sense is to dress in your way to show your individualism rather blindly following the mainstream and eventually you forget about what is your own characteristics.
This has been by far probably the longest post I have published here. I feel like I have shared a lot with you, and now I would like to hear something about you. Please let me a little about yourself and why do you start you blog, if you have one J
